For those who don't already know, Lime Crime is a vegan + cruelty-free make up brand run by Russian-born unicorn lover Doe Deere. Her range of radical lip colours was created + launched 8 years ago when Doe found it hard to find make up as colourful as herself. This expanded over an entire make up collection, including the 2012 launch of the Velvetines: a range of liquid to matte lipsticks in beautifully pigmented colours. Read on for the pros + cons, colours and swatches.
The Good
Each of these beautifully packaged lipsticks are fragranced with a sweet vanilla scent and are seriously pigmented; a little goes a long way with these thick glosses. In terms of durability, there is no competition - Velvetines really do surpass the test of time. Not only are the colours pigmented, but there is now nearly 30 different colours, including both conventional pinks + reds, to more vibrant greens + purples. Finally, the price - £13.76 - is very reasonable for such a long-lasting and high quality product.
The Bad
Each tube contains a doe-foot applicator which I personally find a little more difficult to apply with precision. For this reason I would seriously recommend using these lipsticks in conjunction with a lip liner or barrier. The main concern I have with Velvetines is that - because of their nature - they are incredibly drying. The use of a lip scrub and balm before applying is important, so that the matte finish doesn't accentuate dry patches.
Top to bottom: Pumpkin, Riot + Red Velvet
...and the Colours
Pumpkin - a brick red, with orange undertones
Riot - a dusty rose, marsala colour
Red Velvet - a true, pillar box red
I absolutely adore these colours, and have been unable to find any other liquid to matte lipsticks that even comes close to Lime Crime's Velvetines. Have you ever tried a Velvetine? Which colours do you have or want?

Such a lovely review! I really like how pigmented they are and the shades are so beautiful and flattering :D Pumpkin and Riot are my favourites! Such a shame that liquid lipsticks tend to be drying! xx

Thanks lovely! Do you find that they're drying too? The best solution I've found is Mint Julips lip scrub by Lush, followed by NUXE reve de miel lip balm (which smells like lemon cheesecake)! Makes any drying lipstick apply so much better.
